London Fashion Week 2011: Menswear Trends Spring/Summer 2012

London Fashion week dedicated a whole day to menswear again this season by showing an array of talented established and new designers.

Paul Costelloe and Paul Smith had already decided to mix up their womenswear collections by showing their male counterpart pieces - Costelloe even sending his six sons down the catwalk to model – showing off an array of Edwardian style suits in a plum and pastel palette.

Smith however swapped suits for separates adding mixed hues of orange, navy and caramel and incorporating knitted jumpers, casual slacks and polo shirts alongside smart yet casual shirts, round-collar rain macs and tailored trousers.

Then as designers such as J.W.Anderson, Aquascutum, TOPMAN Design and James Long took to the catwalk the male model had changed their minds heading for a vibrant and colourful destination.

TOPMAN showed a mixture of silk pyjamas (similar to what Prada and Louis Vuitton both adorned a few seasons ago) alongside pastel double-breasted suits and colourful striped jumpers.

James Long headed half way to a safari on the African plaines by adorning snake skin and leopard print shorts with tropical print shirts and jumpers, mixed in with thin jackets and plain wool jumpers too; all in muted and bronzed tones.

Newly weds Kate Moss and Jamie Hince also decided to attend front row at James Small, watching Small’s see-through chiffon shirt creations alongside his intricately splattered paint and floral print shirts, combined sometimes with matching shorts.

Shirts were always buttoned up to the collar and hair was heavily gelled and quaffed slightly to the right.

Near the end of the day Oliver Spence brought a very multicultural league of models to his collections – showing that his style was not only accessible to everyone, but also looked great on all skin tones – using coral as his prime colour he mixed in khaki, navy, camel and muted tones on smart trousers, rain coats, with the double-breasted suit jacket appearing again and being his most desirable piece to date.
