London Fashion Week 2011: Paul Costelloe and Caroline Charles

London Fashion Week 2011: Paul Costelloe and Caroline Charles
London Fashion Week was officially opened this morning by London’s mayor Broris Johnson, with the British Fashion Council once again setting up home – and hosting – at Somerset House.

Dublin-born designer Paul Costello kicked off Spring/Summer 2012 by showing his ornate collection which include all six of his sons, (Justin, 28, Paul-Emmet, 27, Gavin, 26, Robert, 22, William, 18, and Nicholas, 16) whom were modelling for the show.

Dressed in Edwardian style suits in dark plums and pastels Costelloe’s sons looked every inch the models they were, whilst the designer also tried to entice his seventh child, daughter Jessica, onto the catwalk she declined, staying backstage: Jessica is currently studying to become an Opera singer at Juilliard in New York.

Costelloe also made the fashion elite swoon as he sent an array of pastel dresses down the runway, which were sleeveless on top and constructed with bubble skirts with a slim fitting pencil skirt underneath in lemon, cream and silver hues.

Apart from Corrie Nielsen, whom showed her collection under an installation of amazing glass lighting, only Caroline Charles has shown so far, producing a wonderful riveria-inspired collection which included an array of boating hats, panamas and sleek summer dresses.

Charles opened her show with a selection of navy, coral and orange wool trouser suits that were nipped in at the waist and added a certain chaenl-esque appeal, reminiscent of what mamoiselle Coco Chanel herself might adorn, especially when the skirt suits came out and were paired with short lace gloves and straw hats.

Next Charles focused on smart daywear that would be extermely appealable for work wear, alongside a selection of pearl beaded shirts, silk jumpuits with spot patterns also mixing in falired palazzo pants and collar-less jackets.

After this came evening wear which was a mixture of sequinned print snakeprint dresses, with dropped hems along with beaded or sequinned tunics and trouser combinations.

Finally the designer endedher show with a combination of beaded jackets that dazzled in the catwalk lights in a more monochrome and navy palette. A certain hit for the French Riviera next summer….
