The artistic creator Kenzo Takada, opened his groundbreaking shop, Jungle Jap, around the corner in Galerie Vivienne, the beautiful19th century arcade in1970. It was one of the most exciting and energetic places for fashion in Paris.
With this first step in our journey at KENZO, we’ve tapped into our own feeling of excitement and adventure in coming to Paris, a similar atmosphere we imagine Kenzo Takada must have felt himself.
Our women’s collection for Spring-Summer 2012 is a plunge into the next phase of KENZO’s story. We’ve created boldness in color, functionality and reversibility, playful patterned fabrics and an overall ease and youthful sophistication.
The primary colors of the American painter Ellsworth Kelly, who lived in Paris in the 1950’s fresh out of the military, captivated us. His abstracted translations of the world into shapes of color, are inflected by a creative dialogue between France and America.
A collision of our love of American style and street wear with an effortless Parisian spirit is brought forth in this collection.
Motifs evoking a coastal landscape of seashells, birds and fisherman’s nets are translated throughout the collection in prints, embroideries, and accessories.
Spring-Summer 2012 is just a look at what’s to come our new KENZO universe.
