Paris Fashion Week: Balmain Spring/Summer 2012 review

Paris Fashion Week: Balmain Spring Summer 2011For spring/summer 2012 Balmain has switched designers. Christophe Decarnin handed over the reigns back in April after a rumor of ill health – and five years service with the French fashion house – passing it down to Olivier Rousteing, who had worked with Decarnin since 2009.

However, the style did not change and this was a loyal showcase of Balmain’s brand DNA.

Sexy and smart the collection encompassed signature power dresses in light denim with gold foil designs complete with 1980s chunky chain belts and matching jewellery.

Jackets were feminine but tough with impressive built up shoulders alongside jeweled collar shirts, embellished dresses and monochrome pieces: the white cotton sweatshirts and floor length pale denim maxi skirts were fabulous for day wear.

For evening there was a sharp shift to tiny sequined hot pants, floral brocaded jackets, dresses and tops – some quilted – as well as jewel waistbands on clothing and fringed vests, complete with whit, black and gold stones.

Models hair and make-up was chic and simple with a slight slick back mid ponytail (it seems they are here to stay after frequenting nearly every autumn/winter 2011 show) and rose-tinted lips complete with dark penciled eyes.
